Two ways to motorise

Tubular motor sits inside the shaft. Quiet, hidden, needs no side space. The usual choice for showrooms and shopfronts.

Side motor mounts on the wall and drives the shaft through a chain. It handles far more weight, so it is what goes on Industrial Shutters.

Controls

  • Remote handset, with spares available
  • Wall-mounted key switch
  • Up / stop / down push buttons
  • Manual override — always fitted. A motorised shutter with no way to open it in a power cut is a liability, not a convenience.

Motorising a shutter you already have

Often possible. On the site visit we check the laths, shaft and bearings, the side clearance, whether the guide channels run true, and the power point. If the shutter is too far gone we will say so rather than put a new motor on a worn frame.

ControlsRemote, key switch or push button station
Manual overrideChain or crank, fitted as standard

Safety. A powered shutter carries real force. Where staff, children or the public pass under it, treat a bottom-edge sensor as essential rather than optional.

Motorized Shutters — questions

What happens in a power cut?

Every motorised shutter we fit has a manual override, normally a chain or crank. We demonstrate it before we hand over.

Can you motorise my existing shutter?

Often yes, if the shutter, shaft and bearings are sound and there is room for the motor. We check on the site visit and give you an honest view.

Tubular or side motor?

Tubular hides inside the shaft, is quieter and needs no side space, so it suits shopfronts. A side motor handles much heavier shutters.

Is a safety sensor necessary?

We strongly recommend one wherever people pass under the opening. It stops and reverses the shutter if anything is underneath.
